Job Description:
Greater Heights Climbing is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated Routesetters to join our team! As a Routesetter, you’ll play a vital role in a small setting team, responsible for shaping the climbing experience for our members and guests. We seek individuals who are passionate about climbing, committed to the success of Greater Heights, and dedicated to serving our community.
Who is Greater Heights Climbing:
We are an organization striving to bring climbing to greater heights in Madison, Wisconsin. As a new climbing facility opening in December of 2024, our goal is to start off on the right foot. We are primarily focused on hiring hard-working, motivated, and friendly staff, dedicated to the establishment of an environment in which everyone feels welcome. With this being a new venture, everyone should come prepared to contribute.
We plan to begin this journey through a commitment to our guests, members, and team, by utilizing our diverse experiences, and adapting to the ever-changing needs of the community.
Expectations:
- Maintain open communication with the Greater Heights leadership team.
- Report directly to the Head Setter.
- Follow the guidance of the Head Setter regarding setting schedule and route designation.
- Effective communication with all parties involved, with an emphasis on respect and appreciation.
- Always conduct yourself professionally and with kindness.
- Promote gym programs, events, and merchandise to enhance member engagement and participation.
- Foster a positive environment that encourages community and camaraderie among climbers of all skill levels.
- Collaborate with team members to support gym operations and special events.
- Contribute ideas and feedback to help shape the gym's programs and services as we grow.
- Actively promote safe climbing, belaying and gym practices. Responding to any safety concerns as soon as they arise.
- Assist the Head Setter in inspecting and maintaining setting tools, PPE and fixed climbing equipment.
- Availability 8pm-5pm Monday-Friday with occasional nights and weekends for events.
- Ability to work up to 28 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
- Set boulder problems up to 15ft, and routes up to 40ft on all wall angles.
- Remove and wash climbing holds based on the needs of Greater Heights and the setting team.
- Follow all relevant work-at-height guidance and adhere to facility PPE usage guidelines.
- Actively work to mitigate risk in the work zone, facility, and on any set routes or boulders.
- Assist in wall maintenance.
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries, offering assistance, and ensuring a positive experience for all guests.
- Maintain a clean and organized setting room.
- Perform janitorial duties around the gym focused on cleanliness and organization.
- Supervise the climbing floor and be vigilant for any safety concerns.
- Support parties and other events as needed.
- Perform orientations and proctor top rope and lead climbing tests as needed.
- Assist in evacuation, first aid, or other emergency situations.
- Maintain a level of flexibility and adaptability on a day-to-day basis. Responsibilities may temporarily change based on the needs of the business.
- Assist the Head Setter in inspecting and maintaining setting tools, PPE and fixed climbing equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- 2+ years of commercial route setting experience
- Ability to effectively set and forerun V6 and 5.12
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to give and receive feedback in a professional manner
- Ability to adapt
- High energy and enthusiasm towards rock climbing
- An affinity towards Greater Heights core values, and organization philosophy
- Ability to lift heavy loads (50+ lbs)
